The Yakurr People’s Club of Abuja paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Member representing the people of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency.
The President of Yakurr People’s Club of Nigeria, had earlier sent a letter of courtesy call to the member through his Senior Legislative Assistant, Honorable Chuks Agube.
Receiving the President of Yakurr People’s Club and his members, the Honorable Member expressed satisfaction that the club found him worthy of the visit.
Hon. Chuks Agube, reiterated Honorable Alex Egbona’s commitment to carry everyone along, “I know Hon. Alex Egbona to be a man who does not work alone, I believe with you people here, he will draw a lot of inspiration from your wisdom as elders from different works of life and as member of this club.”
The President soon after introduction of all members who were in his entourage, appreciated Hon. Alex Egbona for facilitating the empowerment of 10 women from each ward of the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency by NDE. “I want to thank you specially for such initiative. It has helped a lot in bringing succour to the people.”
Captain Ikona (Rtd) briefed the Honorable Member about the successes recorded by the Yakurr People’s Club. He told the Honorable Member that “the Yakurr People’s Club were quick to intervene and restore normalcy and peace between the Mkpani and Nko villages during the communal clash between them” He went on that “let me inform you Honorable Member Sir, the Yakurr People’s Club was able to bring all Yakurr Communities to a peace pact in Ekori where it was agreed that no village in Yakurr will ever spill the blood of another village. This peace pact was assented to by all traditional rulers of Yakurr.” He stated further that the group has been giving scholarship, empowerment, and other opportunities to Yakurr indigenes.”
Elder Bassey Mbang who gave the opening prayers, advised the Honorable Member that he should seize the opportunity he has now to fix indigenes of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency into federal jobs through the commissioner representing Cross River/Akwa Ibom in the civil service commission.
Mr. Uket Akpama chirped in an advise too when he told the Honorable Member that he will facilitate opportunities for the Honorable Member to attract employment opportunities for our constituents.
Elder Omini Ikpi Ewa, an astute politician wasted no time to tell the Honorable Member that politics is not a game played only in the political party one belongs. “My Honorable Member Sir, with due respect, you’ve to play politics of magnanimity. Show love to other people in different political party. These days, people vote the candidate not the party.”
The climax of the visit was when the group crowned Honorable Alex Egbona, Ph.D, with a muffler of the Club.
The Honorable Member appreciated the Yakurr People’s Club visit. He however, begged that he should be created a chance to be a member of the club. “I want to be a member of this club and I want to attend your meetings, and perhaps, if need be, I want to host the club in my own house someday.”
Mr. Ofem Oboma (Poza), told the Honorable Member that in a few weeks the club will present its company profile to the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency to enhance deeper partnership.
Other members in the entourage included Elder Ibiang Inah and Ofem Ibiang (Ofem Arab). They all wished Honorable Alex Egbona, Ph.D, well and prayed for long life and enduring legacies.
