The Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Augustine Angba on Tuesday received two graduates of the institution who recently received NYSC Presidential awards in Abuja.
Prof. Angba declared that the institution will celebrate any student and Lecturer who makes the university proud, adding that the awards presented are the least they will receive as they are bigger awards waiting for them.
The VC added that the university wants to hear about positive stories of this magnitude. According to him: “There are so many bad stories on social media about CRUTECH. There is a new story about us and I call on those who still rely on old information to jettison it and focus on the new one”.
He called on those who still play politics with the issue of education to desist from it, saying: “One of my mission is that let it not be that, it is in our time that politics killed CRUTECH. Our legacy will be that we stay afloat and it is very important for our generation.”
He further said: “For over one year now, it has been one good news or the other about us. We will celebrate our own. I beg to have dinner with them tonight.”
According to Professor Angba, “any student that comes out to make us proud, we will celebrate them and the lecturer behind the success. I thank you for your feat and for making us proud. This is the least award you will carry in your hands. Our students are our asset and we will not joke with them.”
He thanked the SA, Students Affairs to the governor, Comrade Ogon Abang for the good work he has been doing in projecting the institution in good light.
While presenting the award to the VC, one of the awardees, Mr. Bassey Bassey Okon who graduated in 2016 from Computer Science Department and served in Maiduguri disclosed that during his service, he discovered that there is open defecation and no public toilet so he mobilized resources and built ten toilets and bathrooms for the students. He said that he also got support from UNICEF which he used to purchase sanitary pads for the students. Mr. Bassey Okon added that he also galvanized support and got the attention of the governor who supplied chairs, tables and books for the school. He said: “One of my motivation is the support from CRUTECH. I benefited from the school scholarship scheme which lasted for three sessions during my study. I want to thank the Management Team for the support. I dedicate this award to this great institution.”
Another Awardee, Mr. Opuole Gregory who graduated in 2016 from Visual Arts Department and was posted to Benue State stated that he organized three days skills acquisition for all the students in the state. He added that “I mobilized my fellow Corps members to IDP and Orphanage homes and gave out exercise books to the the people there. In my area, I erected a roundabout at T-Junction in Benue State.”
He appreciated the university for providing a conducive atmosphere for learning, saying “I am glad that I was well taught by my lecturers. I learnt to be patient while studying in CRUTECH. Because of the motivation I got from school, I travelled to Abuja to source for funds that helped me execute those projects. I appreciate all my lecturers for their support. I promise to continue taking the name of this school to the highest level.”
