The Leadership of University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association, ably led by her amiable National President, Comrade Eyam Abeng yesterday undertook an on the spot assessment of various units in the University to identify areas of urgent need.
The Alumni Leadership commenced the tour shortly after her familiarisation visit to the new Management Team of the University led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Oko Angba.
Apart from tour around the entire Calabar campus of the University, other critical areas visited were the Registry, Bursary, Students Affairs Division, Lecture Halls, adjoining boundaries, Physical planning units, etc. of the University.
In a chat with our correspondence after the tour, Comrade Abeng explained that the Visitation to the Management Team and on the spot assessment of facilities and various units of the University has become imperative due to the recent conversion of the University to a Conventional one which equally expands its scope and expectations.
According to Comrade Eyam, “the Alumni Leadership thought it wise and necessary to carry out an on the spot assessment of the institution, after the recent name change and conversion to a Conventional University, to have a first hand knowledge of the current state of the University and where the Alumni can come in to support. So far the tour have been very rewarding, we are on ground to identify area of needs that requires our urgent collaboration and support to make our beloved Alma Mater (UNICROSS) a number one University in the South-South region and one of the foremost leading Universities in the country in no distance time.”
Comrade Abeng lauded the visionary leadership and achievement of the current Vice Chancellor and his management team. Noting that in just less than six months of coming on board, there have been massive amd very visible developments in the institution.
In his words, Comrade Abeng noted that: “the Vice Chancellor and his team are doing well. We are convinced that they have the capacity, quality and good will to deliver effectively on their mandate. During our courtesy visit, the position of Management was made known to us, quite appreciate their efforts and have equally noted their demands from Alumni. We have assured them of our resolve to connect the University to the Industry and research institutions to attract grants, support and scholarships for staff & students. We will do our very best to support the University meet her needs”.
The National President also acknowledged the hiccups among aggrieved members of the Association. Noting that he is equally unhappy about it and assured the University Community that as a father, he is open and ready to dialogue to resolve all lingering issues with some of her members arising from the 2019 elections. He noted that they were all his friends and brothers that he could reach out to them in no distant time to have a formidable Alumni.
