“THE JUNIOR RANK MUST RESPECT THE SENIOR RANKS”- UNICROSS VC CHARGES STAFF

The Vice Chancellor of Universitiy of Cross River, Prof. Augustine Angba has called on all staff to accord respect to their seniors in the universitiy. He gave the charge on Friday while on a Need Assessment tour across faculties and departments in Calabar Campus.

Prof. Angba accompanied by other top management Staff visited the faculties of Communication Technology, Architecture and Environmental Sciences.

While on the tour, the VC took statistics of all staff of the various departments visited as well as facilities in those departments. He identified areas of urgent attention, while promising to address them in no distant time. According to him “We are here to ascertain the real problems faced by staff. We want to assure you that we have scheduled needs and we are here to align what we see with what is on our records. Our finances are lean and are not enough to meet all our needs.”

He added that Management has given priority to urgent needs, saying “So we have to prioritize our needs. In doing this, the HoD and Deans have a lot to do. It is their duty to plan and come out with alternatives before taking matters to management. The Deans and HoDs should set up accreditation committee in the departments and they are to send their needs to Management within two weeks. It is the duty of the HoD to help guide and direct in the department. It is their duty to ensure discipline in their various faculties.”

On the need for mutual respect, he said: “The junior ranks must respect the senior ranks. Career respect should be observed. We are not going to compromise that.”

Prof. Angba further admonished staff who engage in unwholesome practices to desist from such, saying
“We shouldn’t be accomplices to those who engage in unethical conducts. We are going to sustain the good news that is presently in the institution. Official issues should be separated from personal issues. We will adopt all forms of social control. Let us be good to ourselves and our students.”

On the issue of absenteeism from work, he called on lecturers to plan properly, saying “Staff should be coming to work. If you’re leaving for two or three days, you get written approval from the HoD.”

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor commended Visual Arts Department for making the universitiy proud in so many areas.
He also called on Architecture department to submit 3D designs that will aid the institution in getting architectural works done.

Highpoint of the tour was inspection of offices, studios, lecture halls and other facilities in the faculties visited, to ascertain the areas that need urgent attention.
