THE AKACHAK FESTIVAL IS SECOND TO NONE IN EJAGHAM- Sen. Owan
The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River state has described the Akachak cultural festival as second to none in Ejagham kingdom. The senator who was a special guest of honour in this year’s event held at Oban congratulated the people for sustaining the annual event saying “As I sat here today, I saw the ejagham culture displayed in its splendour. The akachak festival is growing every year. This event is second to none among out people”. He added that the festival is attracting people from across and beyond the state as even the Akwa Ibomites were represented in the cultural display. According to him ” I believe that the next one will be mightier as this is the only way to showcase the culture if the people”. He commended the Oban people saying “I leave here very proud of the Oban people”.
On his part the deputy governor, Prof. Ivara Esu who represented the governor assured the people of government’s continuous support saying ” Even though the government has taken it to the culture ministry, I think that it should be included in the budget”. He added that “We are very glad to continue to support the festival”.
Also speaking, the Honourable commissioner for Culture and tourism, Mr. Eric Anderson congratulated the people for successfully hosting the event saying ” As a government, we have tried to throw more support to festivals in the state”.
