The Vice Chancellor of Universitiy of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Augustine Angba has advised students of the institution to desist from sex-for-grade or sex-for-money. He gave the admonition today while addressing Year 1 and Year 2 students of Calabar Campus of the institution during the COVID-19 Orientation and Interactive session.
Prof. Angba said: “For the girls, I want to tell you that success is not sexually transmitted. If you want to sleep with anybody to pass or get money to pay your fees, you will regret your actions.”
He admonished the students to report any staff who insists on having illicit affair with them. He added that: “If anybody insists that you must sleep with them, please go to UNICROSS PRESS platform and report the incidence. If it has to do with academics, a lecturer must not have any illicit affair with any student. If anybody asks you to pay money that is not legitimate, please report the incidence”.
The VC further called on the students to be wary of the friends they keep as they can make or mar their academic journey. He said: ” Your Year 1 and 2 will determine your stay on campus. It is not everyone who came in at this level that will graduate successfully. The only way you can ensure that you graduate is based on your performance in year 1.”
Prof Angba called on the students not to join cult groups, saying “if you join cults, two things will happen; it is either you kill somebody or somebody will kill you and you create undue sorrows for your family. I am talking to you today to go back home and think for yourself. We are working hard to get scholarships for those of you who are serious with your studies.”
The VC added that management is collaborating with firms outside to provide jobs for best graduating students. According to him, “we are making arrangements with companies outside for many of you that will graduate with First Class, jobs will be waiting for you.”
Prof. Angba admonished the students to observe all COVID-19 safety protocols and be prepared to partake in the Virtual Learning exercise of the universitiy.
