The Senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District, Senator Gershom Bassey has again put smiles on the faces of his constituents by illuminating streets within the Calabar Metropolis and Odukpani Local Government Area with more than 750 (Seven hundred and fifty) functional solar street lights.
The Senator who is also the Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) said the gesture was part of efforts to fulfil his campaign promises of providing an improved living condition to the people and to enhance aesthetics of his constituency.
While reiterating that the solar street would provide adequate illumination on strategic streets in keeping with his vision to light up all major roads and border towns in the southern part of the state.
The Solar Street Lights were installed in the following streets;
· For Odukpani LGA (Tinapa – Adiabo)
Ø Odukpani central road to Council
Ø Okurikang junction
Ø Akpak Okoyong
Ø Esuk Eniong
Ø Esuk Eki both by bith Edem Inyang
· For Calabar South and Calabar Municipality
Ø White house street
Ø Mayne Avenue
Ø Palm street
Ø Ekondo street
Ø Ambo street
Ø Bassey Duke street
Ø Atu street
Ø Asari Eso layout
Ø Jehovah witness Road, Akai Efa
Ø and so many other streets too numerous to enlist here
He added the initiative was also part of the security strategy to make Cross River South competitive, safe and secure and that the project had so far demonstrated that Cross River South is the light at the end of the tunnel for Cross River State.
He also mentioned that significant success had been recorded since the commencement of the project among which included an increase in commercial activity in the areas where the functional solar street lights had been installed, while driving on major streets within Odukpani LGA and the Calabar Metropolis axis amongst others have become more pleasurable as a result of the improved illumination.
He added that other Local Governments will be captured on the street lights project.
On their part, residents said the project was an eloquent testimony to the fact that Senator Gershom Bassey is not only an action Senator in words, but also indeed, and that he was truly committed to make life better and meaningful for the people.
While commending him for his quality representation, the people promised to always support him in his political endeavor. They thanked the all loving Senator for his kind gesture and for his effort at bringing development to his constituency.
Gershom had, some weeks ago, distributed more than 80 tricycles to his constituents.
He had, apart from giving out the items, doled out huge capital resources to some of his constituents to help them in their businesses and enjoined residents and stakeholders to watch out for more developments in this regard.
