POLICE HAS NO SECURITY VAN TO FIGHT CRIME IN YAKURR, OFFICERS CRY OUT

The Divisional Police Command in Ugep community, Yakurr Local Government Area, has no functional patrol vehicle to effectively operate and fight cases of insecurity in the area, investigation revealed.

An officer from the command, who spoke with newsmen under the condition of anonymity, said the failure of the command to effectively respond to cases of emergency was largely connected to the non availability of a patrol van.

The officer lamented that as big as Yakurr Local Government Area is, the police cannot boost of standbye patrol vehicle.

“We are ready to fight crime, but we do not have a functional patrol vehicle to help us out in this direction.

“Most times when they call us on serious security issues, we find it difficult to respond on time because of the issue of mobility,” he said.

He however, appealed to prominent sons and daughter of Yakurr to assist the command with a functional vehicle.

When contacted, the Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade on Security, Yakurr Local Government Area, Mr Cyril James-Omini, appealed to the Senator representing Cross River Central, Senator Sandy Onor, Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Hon. Eteng Jonah-Williams, Commissioner for Lands, Hon. John Inyang, Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Godwin Eta, and others to come to their aid.

He appealed to them to support security agents in Yakurr with a view to help them enhance their quick response to all forms of crime and illegality in the area.
