Pelican Stars Female Football team of Calabar and officials of the club have undergone a COVID-19 test at the General Hospital in Calabar in line with the regulation of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
Chairman of Pelican Stars FC, Comrade Sam Kombor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after undergoing his test that the initiative to test the players against the virus was a welcome development.
“We are answering a global call that has been necessitated as a result of COVID-19. We are here for the testing of the officials and players in keeping with NCDC and NWFL protocols.
“After this test, we are going to forward the result to the football board. As you can see, our players are all here and undergoing the test in an orderly manner,” he said.
Comrade Kombor also thanked the state government for making the welfare of the club a priority.
Captain of the Club, Hodo Williams, described the test as a “mandatory requirement” as demanded by the NWFL, adding that it was necessary for them to know their COVID-19 status.
Williams said she was doing her best in carrying her team mates along in order to motivate them to do better on the league ranking.
