Doctors and nurses at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar are in panicking mode following the death of a patient who is suspected to have died of the dreaded covid-19.
The patient, Grassroot Reporters gathered died last night. It was gathered that some nurses and doctors at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital who attended to patient did not use full personal protective equipment (PPE) to attend to the patient.
Report alleged that a staff of the hospital who is also showing symptoms of the disease has been isolated at hospital’s Isolation Centre.
When contacted, the Commissioner of Health in Cross River State, Dr Betta Edu said the patient’s sample has been collected and sent for testing and the result is still being awaited.
“No nurse or doctor has been quarantined for Covid-19. It’s just a suspected case. The patient has been taken to the isolation centre. Samples have been collected and taken for confirmation. Anytime we have a suspected case samples are collected and taken to laboratory”.
