Over fifteen gubernatorial candidates of various political parties have adopted the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River, Sen. John Owan Enoh as their consensus candidate pledging their total support.
The candidates under the aegis of Coalition of Owan Friends of Political Parties and Groups (COFOPPAG) in a press conference held in Calabar on January 3rd unanimously adopted Sen. Owan out of their love for the state and the need to redeem it from what they termed “An administration of family affairs” presently operating in the state.
The Director General of the group, Pst. Ntami Esege, the guber candidate of PPN in his address stated that “We came up with this coalition because lies and sycophancy has taken over the state”. He added that they are gubernatorial candidates recognised by INEC saying ” We have decided to pick a man that is tested and driven and we hereby adopt him as our consensus candidate”.
He said “Today being 3rd of January, the members of COFOPPAG want to formally adopt Sen. Owan as our consensus candidate in Cross River State because we are tired of fake news and signpost projects”.
Addressing the group, Sen. Owan described the adoption as the making of history and one borne out of the desire for a better state. According to him “Today we are witnessing the making of history. I am glad you have chosen the love and interest of the state first by refusing to collect sign-in fees as is done elsewhere”. He furthers reaffirmed his commitment towards redeeming the lost glory of the state saying “There is something about character and integrity that the state is in dire need of at the moment and that’s what we are bringing on board”.
Sen. Owan called on the present government to allow his billboard to be erected across the state capital as he has paid the mandatory fee of two million naira. He said ” If Owan is not a strong contender, let them allow my billboard to stand”. According to him “Any of my billboard that is being brought down again will amount to series of actions to be taken even to the federal level”. He described the industrialization drive which the present administration is campaigning with as ” a huge fraud used yo siphon our resources abroad” while calling on Cross Riverians to be part of the rescue mission.
Also speaking the Charles Okoi, the candidate of ASP and coordinating chairman of the group noted that “We have come to effect change as our people are crying and we say enough is enough”.
