The newly appointed Acting Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Prof. Augustine Angba has declared that the interest of the state university is going to be paramount in his agenda.
Prof. Angba made the declaration during the official handing over ceremony from the outgoing Ag. VC held at senate chambers of the institution.
According to him “It is all about CRUTECH agenda and we are going to put our best brains in place that will produce desired results. We must be digital, therefore we will implore science and technology to improve our IGR”. He added that “The outgoing Ag. VC has set the ball rolling and we will keep it rolling. The greatest legacy we can bequeath to our generation yet unborn is the fear of God and good education “.
According to Prof. Austin, his administration will double the efforts towards increasing the ranking of the university saying ” My predecessors have laid a solid foundation and we shall scale up their successes and open up new vistas. We are going to think within and outside the box. We hope to increase the ranking of CRUTECH and to achieve this, we shall adopt capacity building, infrastructural development and source for grants”.
On his part, the out-going Ag. VC of CRUTECH, Prof. David Ogar Abua expressed joy for the opportunity given him to serve the institution saying “When I came here on the 7th of Nov. 2019, this ceremony was done for me. I thank all of you for the tremendous support you gave me while I was still here with you. My greatest achievement is that while I was here, there was no shooting or bloodshed on campus. All other achievements are secondary. The in-coming Ag. VC is my colleague and friend from the same faculty. I can tell you vehemently that he is going to continue what I have started”.
He thanked Gov. Ayade for the opportunity saying ” Most importantly, I want to thank the governor for the opportunity given to me to showcase myself for the first time as one of the top administrative echelon of the university”.
Prof. Abua further stated that he has taken steps geared towards implementing the five points agenda he came on board with saying
“The day I took over six months ago, I said I have five points agenda which include Security, Welfare of staff and students, quality education, infrastructural development and IGR”. He added that the institution intend to go into three major enterprises- rice, fish and poultry production as a way of boosting its Internally Generated Revenues.
According to him “Presently we have one of the latest water factory in the state and what we need now is just NAFDAC number and that will be achieved in the nearest future”.
On CRUTECH staff school, he said the school has been certified and the process to start a secondary section is ongoing. He went further to add that the state university presently can boast ofa directorate of research and development that will be equipped very soon to meet with global best practices.
On the issue of land encroachment, the Outgoing Ag. VC said “We paid courtesy visits to the paramount rulers and chiefs of our host communities to discuss with them and it is yielding fruit”.
Highpoint of the event was the official handing over of documents from the outgoing to the incoming Ag Vice Chancellor.
