Traders at the popular Ikom market are presently counting their losses due to the fire outbreak that ravaged some parts of the market like the Lagos line and others.

The fire incidence which occurred in the wee hours of Friday burnt down some parts of the Lagos line completely with goods worth millions of naira.

Genuine reports gathered that a similar incidence occurred about a year ago in the same Lagos line of the main market.

The inferno which started at night affected many shops as efforts to get the fire fighters proved abortive.

Counting his loss, one of the affected shop owner, Mr sketel told our correspondent that electrical fault was the major cause of the fire incidence. He spoke in pidgin saying “Na nepa light cause the fire o, the fire start from one man shop down there and now see watin e don turn to. E be like say the been no off him electronics before him go home”.

Another eye witness, Mr Kingsley expressed dissatisfaction over the activities of some hoodlums who broke into people’s shops during the fire incidence saying “While some good Nigerians are trying to get rid of the fire, some people are busy breaking into people’s shops. While some were busy packing what they could still get, some were crying bitterly because the fire has already taken over their shops.

The fire was contained through the collective efforts of the people present. However, a lot of damages was done as lots of shops got completely razed down.
