The Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade on Security, Yakurr Local Government Area, Mr Cyril James-Omini, has called on the state government to postpone the Idomi New Yam festival with immediate effect due to chieftaincy tussle rocking the area.
James-Omini, said that the festival, if allowed to hold, will be marred with crisis following the tussle.
He however, called on the Commissioner of police to invite Chief Arikpo Ekubi and His Royal Majesty, Obol Ibor Eteng Iferi, the Obol Lopon, for interrogation for trying to disrupt the peace of Yakurr LGA based on intelligence security report.
He maintained that his office will not tolerate any community embarking on a communal clash over chieftaincy tussle.
He reminded them of the Donald Duke era, were some chiefs in the state were dethroned for their involvement in some illegality, thereby advising them to shun all forms of tussle that may lead to a clash in the area.
He said that the Governor Ben Ayade led government is creating a peaceful environment for all communities to live in peace and harmony, hence the need for the Yakurr nation to buy into that vision.
He urged the state government to kindly postpone the festival that is scheduled to hold in September forward with a view to give room for more peaceful talks to settle both parties.
The Security aide particularly warned Chief Barr. Lekan Okoi to be called to order for his unguided utterances which he said may spark crisis in the area if not properly managed.
