FIRST FEMALE VICE CHANCELLOR TAKES OVER LEADERSHIP IN UNICAL

History was made today as the University of Calabar inaugurated her first Female Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Banku Obi.

The event which took place at the institution’s International Conference Centre attracted dignitaries from all works of life including a former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, the deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu, Minister for State on Power, Prince Jeddy Agba, serving and former Vice Chancellors amongst others.

Speaking during the investiture, the Chairman of Governing Council, Dr. Nkechi Nworgu called on the university community to accord the new VC the support needed to actualise her dream for the institution. According to her “I implore you to be conscious in supporting our new VC to develop this institution”.

In her address, the new VC promise to put in her best in ensuring that UNICAL remains one of the best universities in the country. She called for support from all a sundry to actualize that dream. Prof. Obi is the 11th Vice Chancellor of the 45 years old institution. The professor of Special Education takes over from Prof. Zana Akpagu.
