The lawmaker representing Bakassi State Constituency in the Cross River House of Assembly, Dr Ekpo Ekpo-Bassey, has commenced Dr Janet Ekpenyong, Director General of Cross River Primary Healthcare Agency, for her service in reducing maternal mortality in the state.
Dr Ekpo-Bassey, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Health, made the commendation in a release signed on Sunday in Calabar.
The lawmaker, who did not state the percentage of reduction in his release, however said that the state had also witnessed a significant reduction in the prevalence of endemic diseases.
“I want to appreciate Dr Ekpenyong for her deep commitment to service delivery in Cross River.
“I see her taking the Agency to the next level where our people would enjoy access ability, affordability and efficient health care services in their communities.
“We have witnessed a significant reduction in maternal, child and newborn mortalities including a reduction in the prevalence of endemic diseases.
“Cross River is making a difference in the health sector as a whole. In fact, we have witnessed the repositioning and rebranding of the Agency in the state,” the statement said.
Ekpo-Bassey said that with the great potentials and capacity of Dr Ekpenyong and with the strength of Dr Betta Edu who is the Commissioner for Health in the state, “Cross River is good to go as a model state in health care delivery in Nigeria”.
“I therefore congratulate you on your 1st year in office as DG of Cross River Primary Healthcare Agency.
“I also wish you a happy new year as we partner to deliver dividends of democracy to our people through improved health care services,” the statement added.
