CRUTECH VC ADMONISHES ACADEMIC STAFF ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT, PROMISES CONDUCIVE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The Vice Chancellor of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Prof. Augustine Angba has encouraged academic staff of the institution to devout more time in their professional and personal development as the management of the institution is working assiduously to create a conducive learning environment for both teaching and learning.

Prof. Angba made the appeal on Friday, January 22nd, 2021 while addressing Academic staff at the COVID-19/Virtual Learning Orientation programme organised by Management of the institution. According to him “I encourage my colleagues to focus more on developing themselves”.

He called on staff to always reach out to him with proposals on how to make the institution better as according to him ” If you have anything to offer to the university, just look for my number and send a text.”

The VC enumerated areas that academic staff can key in and develop themselves to include applying for grants, new methods of teaching, visibility of the institution, research opportunities, proposal writings amongst others. According to him “The stories are changing and I expect that the first set of people to change the narratives are the teaching staff. We need men that will work with us to achieve this purpose”.

He further stated that CRUTECH has one of the best management team in the world adding that ” Our staff can compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world”.

On issues that concern the students, the Vice Chancellor stated that Management is presently taking inventory of the best graduates across the campuses of the institution with a view to providing employment opportunities for them. He added that management is seeking funding to put in place infrastructures that will aide teaching and learning. According to him “We have secured funding for the building of ultramodern ICT lecture hall for Ogoja and Okuku campuses”.

On the issue of delayed payment of salaries, the VC assured staff that the issue will soon become a thing of the past as according to him “My lowest point of being a VC is that I am not able to pay salaries as at when due. However, no problem lasts forever. With time, we will be able to pay salaries promptly.”

Prof. Augustine added that his team is working to see that CRUTECH becomes one of the best state universities in the country saying that “It is our desire that not too long, CRUTECH will be one of the best ten state universities in Nigeria”.
