The Management of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) has inaugurated a COVID-19 Central and implementation committee.
Performing the inauguration at the Senate chamber of the university on July 1st, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Augustine Angba charged members of the committee to ensure strict compliance with laid down safety measures and guidelines on COVID-19 as recommended by health agencies.
The Central committee which is headed by the Dean of Biological Sciences faculty, Prof. E. C. Utah is made up of other members which include the Directors of Medical services of the four campuses of the institution, the deans of all faculties, the Chief Security Officer of CRUTECH, Student Representative as well as Mr. Samuel Ibu as Secretary.
The Implementation committee on the other hand is headed by the Chief Security Officer, Rtd. (SP) Iwara Ibiang and members include the head of Nursing services, heads of security across the four campuses, head of Man O’War, amongst others.
Speaking during the inauguration, the Ag. Vice Chancellor urged members of the committee to be as civil as possible during the implementation process and focus more on enlightenment of both staff, students, and visitors on the need to adhere to all safety measures of COVID-19. According to him “CRUTECH is setting up this committee as a proactive measure in the fight against COVID-19. We are going to take very firm actions to ensure that we are not left behind.”
The terms of reference of the committee include to interface with the relevant government agencies on COVID-19 and develop guidelines on COVID-19, acquisition and deployment of available facilities and equipments to campuses, faculties, departments and units as the need arises. Others include to ensure reasonable level of availability of COVID-19 facilities and equipments in the university in preparedness to manage any foreseeable and unforeseeable COVID-19 crisis that may arise, to collaborate with CRUTECH task force on COVID-19 to ensure adequate compliance by staff, students and visitors.
Speaking after inauguration, the Central committee chairman, Prof. Utah gave the assurance that the committee will deliver on its mandate saying “This is a call for a life saving duty as this pandemic is evolving and is becoming prevalent. Our major concern is that there should be an atmosphere of security and safety on our campuses. We want to assure management that we are going to put in our best in delivering on this mandate.”
The Acting VC assured the committee of maximum support saying “We will give this committee 100% support and we urge them to go out and solicit for both material and equipment support needed to keep our campuses free of COVID-19.”
