The National President of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Alumni Association, Comrade Eyam Abeng was sworn in as Acting Chairman of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Lagos Zone.
The Lagos Zonal Executive Committee (ZECOM) of PENGASSAN made this known via a release signed by the outgoing Chairman of the Zone, Comr. Simon Onovae after ZECOM emergency meeting which took place virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions.
With this elevation to the Acting Chairman of Lagos Zone, Comr. Eyam is now a member of the Central Working Committee of PENGASSAN world wide, member of the National Executive Council (NEC), Member of Group Executive Committee of NNPC PENGASSAN.
This development is in line with PENGASSAN constitution following the former Chairman promotion to a Managerial Cadre at his place of primary assignment (NNPC) which is considered outside the purview of membership in the Association, the release explained.
“In line with Rules 4.3 (ii) and 15.12.2 (iii) of the PENGASSAN Constitution 2019, an official of the Association is expected to relinquished his position and membership one month after his promotion out of the categories allow in the Association,” the release further maintained.
In his remark, Comrade Eyam rendered his unreserved appreciation to God Almighty and his dear colleagues of the Lagos Zone for making his elevation possible and termed it the Consolidation Agenda, which is directed at improving on the existing good works of theboutgoing Chairman of the Zone, Comr. Simon Onovae.

Comrade Frank Esanubi, former Deputy President of PENGASSAN for his self service and pragmatic leadership,
Comrade Simon Onovae for fostering team work and team spirit at all times, Comrade Ibe Billy, the Branch Chairman of NAPIMS for Mentorship and guidance and all members of ZECOM, ZEC and NAPIMS Branch. I am equally grateful to the NNPC PENGASSAN Family, all Elders and leaders of PENGASSAN Lagos Zone.
He assured the Zone of his resolve to uphold the Constitution of PENGASSAN, provide efficient, accessible and transparent leadership where welfare of members of the zone remains a priority at all times.
Until his inauguration as Acting Chairman, Comrade Abeng is a Network Architect at the NNPC and was still serving his first term of 3 years as the Vice Chairman of Lagos Zone of PENGASSAN, a position he won with a landslide after a keenly contested election which held on 28th July, 2020.
PENGASSAN is a very famous and foremost union in the most important sector in the country’s economy with members spanning across notable oil agencies/marketers like: TOTAL, Shell, Chevron, Agip, NNPC, MobIl, NLNG, NNRA, Addax Petroleum, Sinopec, etc and currently an affiliate to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUCN) and Industriall Global Union. The industrial Global Union located in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Lagos Zone of the Association comprises of members from six (6) states namely: Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti and Kwara States.
