Cross River State Anti-deforestation Taskforce goes tough on illegal loggers

The Cross River State Anti deforestation Taskforce, Governor’s office, Calabar, has started full operations across the three Senatorial District of the State to make sure that no wood leave the state.

The Taskforce, which embarked on a surveillance exercise in the Southern Senatorial District of the state, said they were out to ensure that the ban on illegal wood logging is fully implemented.

The Chairman of the Anti deforestation Taskforce, Mr Agan Modey and the Director of Operations, Hon. Asegem Emma, who spoke with journalists after the surveillance activities, said that the state government frowns at activities of illegal loggers in the state, hence the act must stop.

They also declared war on illegal loggers across the Senatorial Districts, thereby issuing a direct warning to some appointees of government who are encouraging defersetation in the state to desist from their illegal activities.

They warned that anyone flouting the order if arrested, will be persecuted immediately, stating that from now henceforth, no wood is allowed to leave the state again.
