CR ASSEMBLY CONFIRMS JUSTICE IKPEME AS STATE CHIEF JUDGE

The State lawmakers have confirmed the appointment of Hon. Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of Cross River State.

Ikpeme’s confirmation followed the deliberation of Members on a letter by the Secretary to the State Government conveying the request of Governor Ben Ayade to the House.

The letter partly reads; “the purpose of this letter is therefore, to request Mr. Speaker and Honorable members to please grant the consequential Confirmation of the nominee for formal appointment as Chief Judge of Cross River State in the State public service”.

In an interview with Journalists, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams stated that the House decided to recind it’s earlier decision and confirm Ikpeme’s appointment after they received new facts and reports and in the interest of Cross Riverians.

Williams also expressed the lawmakers desire to stabilize the Judiciary. He added that his expectation from Justice Ikpeme was Justice and fairness in the discharge of her duties.
