A family court sitting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital and presided over by the Acting Chief Judge of the State’s High Court, Justice Eyo Ita has convicted Emmanuel Thompson Udo, 47 for raping his 14 year old step daughter.

The incident occured at his residence, 45 Afokang street in Calabar on August, 15 2018.

And, following a petition by the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), he was arrested, investigated and prosecuted.

The matter has been adjourned until January 7, 2021 for sentencing hearing where the Court will determine how long he will stay in prison.

James Ibor, the principal partner of BRCI, in a statement commended some key actors in the matter.

“All thanks to the Nigerian Police special investigators, the Hon. Attorney General, Hon. Tanko Ashang, the DPP – Mr. Felix Itittim and Blessing Egwu for their effort in securing justice. Also, I wish to thank the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative team for their in providing support to the survivor through out the period of investigation and trial,” Ibor wrote.
