CALABAR: MAGISTRATE AND HER SONS PROTEST NON-PAYMENT OF SALARY FOR TWO YEARS

A magistrate working at the Chief Magistrate Court, Odukpani, Safiya Iyeh Ashipu and her two sons are protesting in front of the Cross River state Governor’s office.

Magistrate Ashipu is one of the 29 Magistrates that the state government is owing salaries for over 2 years. The placards carried inscriptions such as “Your Excellency, I am a single mother of two. I have not been paid for two years”. While that of her son read “Your Excellency, my governor, help us”.

According to reports, she is a single mother of two kids and the pains and agony occasion by lack of salaries for two years forced her and her son to carry placards and register their complaint to the governor.


It was gathered that the police have seized her phone and are already threatening to use force to remove her from the front of the governor’s office.
