The Cross River Local Government elections earlier slated for March 28th has been rescheduled to hold on Saturday, May 30th, 2020.
This is contained in a press release signed by the Chairman, State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Mike Ushie and made available to GenuineReports.
The statement enjoined all residents of the state to come out in their numbers and cast their votes for candidates of their choice on the said date.
It reads, “Notice is hereby given to all citizens of Cross River State, that the 2020 Local Government Elections earlier scheduled to take place on the 28th March, 2020 shall now take place on Saturday, 30th May, 2020.”
According to the release, accreditation and voting will take place simultaneously. It states, “Accreditation and voting starts 8.00 am on that day and closes 3.00 pm to give room for collation. All movement is restricted except those on essential and election duties, markets and shops shall remain closed within the period”.
According to the release, security agencies are enjoined to maintain law and order saying ” Voting takes place at all polling stations and no loitering shall be entertained at such zones. Security agencies are hereby requested to maintain adequate security throughout the period”.
The commission called on all citizens of the state to adhere to the measures spelt out by NCDC as it relates to the pandemic saying “All must adhere strictly to all precautionary measures stipulated by the NCDC such as use of face/nose masks, use of hand sanitizers/washing of hands, maintaining physical distance, etc”.
