In fulfilment of some of his campaign promises to enhance the welfare of members of his constituency, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, has embarked on the grading of the Mkpani-Ugep link road.
Speaking during the on-site inspection of the road grading, the Speaker said the idea was to create an alternative and shorter route between both Yakurr communities and make the road motorable especially in this farming season.
The Rural grading which commenced from the 2KM ongoing road project facilitated by the Federal Government in his ward in Mkpani, was extended to another 4.2KM by the Speaker to reach Ugep community.
Williams expressed satisfaction with the work done by the contractors adding he will continue to prioritise projects with direct impact on the lives of the people and the socio-economic growth of the constituency.
According to him, the inspection is aimed at ascertaining the level of work done and to make full payment to the contractors to ensure the work is completed on record time before the rainy season. While also calling on both the state and federal governments, NGO’s and development partners to support in executing the next phase of the road which involves asphalting.
Some residents of the benefiting communities hailed the Lawmaker for the laudable projects.
A political chieftain in the constituency, Chief Onen Inyang said, “When he was here for the school commissioning in Agoi-Ibami, He told us that in the next couple of weeks, that work would commence on this road and true to what he said, work is ongoing now. We have never had this kind of politician before. We thank God for blessing us with a proactive leader”
Another constituent, and community leader, Chief Oboma Agbo said that the lawmaker’s intervention was timely. “Our people are mostly into agriculture, this ongoing rural road grading will help ameliorate the challenges of transporting agricultural produce for the hinter farms to the market”, he enthused.
